It’s a classical XIXth century American tale of the strengths and incredible fragility of democracy.

This study of the relations between the crew and a charismatic captain, who enchanted everybody with his promises and is unable to deliver when faced with with imminent catastrophe symbolised by a giant whale – in the times of global rebirth of nationalism and nostalgia for the iron-fist leadership becomes alarmingly valid.

It is a tale about personal revenge, forces that must not be awoken and Nature capable of sinking even the bravest whaler’s whips.

It is a theatre of grand political prose, a complete world panorama full of poetry, irony, philosophy and terror.
